I feel helpless. And I can’t quiet the screaming inside my head. This is climate change! Now will you listen??? This is climate change!
I know that like me, many of you are disheartened and angry by President Trump’s decision to pull the US out of the Paris Climate Change Accord. While this is an incredibly short-sighted decision based upon ideological nonsense that will damage our nation’s standing in the world, I do not believe this is the end of the Paris agreement nor of the United States’ move toward a carbon-free economy.
But I worry. I am my father’s daughter and have inherited a number of traits from him. Is it possible that I also unconsciously disparage other people’s experience?
I don’t know why, but the thing about climate change that most excites (and distresses) me is not the science or the economics. It’s the talking and listening part.
“Oh, don’t you just hate those climate deniers?” The man with no name-tag says with a little jab in his voice. I’m sure he expects me to nod my head in vigorous agreement…”
